South Carolina secedes from the Union

South Carolina

On December 20, 1860, the state of South Carolina declared itself to be a country onto itself and all ties to the other states in the United States would be severed. Its succession passed unanimously. Its governor felt that it had joined the United States of its own free will and could therefor leave the United States the same way. The election of Abraham Lincoln and the constant fighting between the Northern and Southern states about slavery made the state of South Carolina choose succession as a solution. It was joined by the other Southern states soon after.
