1831

William Lloyd Garrison was from Massachusetts. He was a Christian, abolitionist, journalist, suffragist and a social reformer. Although not directly involved in the Underground Railroad, he visited Chester County and specifically Kennett Square and the Progressive Friends, many times in his role as abolitionist. He created and published The Liberator, a widely read and respected antislavery newspaper.
